Why is baptism important

My life is divided into two parts, the one before and the one after baptism.
I was born and raised in an atheistic family, like most of my peers or generation time close
children and youth in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
The politics of Yugoslavia was directed against the education of children and youth in the spirit of Orthodoxy.
The Church has been pushed to the sidelines, the Communist Party has pursued for decades by all possible means relentless ideological and every other campaign against the Serbian Orthodox Church.
In such a political and social environment, it was hard to be a believer.
However, in each of us lurking somewhere hidden, known only to ourselves, personally and deeply hidden „life’s a miracle.“
I distinctly remember the months and weeks I could not sleep at night from me then unexplainable reason.
The outcome came one summer morning 1987th year. This outcome is in my single point cleared up all my doubts and dilemmas that have existed for years in me. I struggle with it ran preceded this, for me vital, crucial and fateful summer morning.
After a bad sleeping night, my first thought was that I need to be baptized.
I went immediately to the church. That morning in the courtyard of the church I was found departed priest  Dragoljub Jovanovic.
He read the former edition of the „Politika“ newspaper on the terrace of the church home. The churchyard was full of greenery.
On Sunday then on the Divine Liturgy were few believers.
I said him good morning. Tranquil view over glasses, dropping newspaper asked me: „What a good boy?“
I said, „Father, I came to be baptized.“ After a few moments of silence in which we silently watched, he said: „Well, miracles do happen.“
This is said because of my age primarily because it was supposed to be baptized earlier. Unfortunately the baptism of children was then a rarity.
Now we all agreed. He explained to me what it takes to prepare for baptism.
After that I got of late fatheKrštenjer Dragoljub and an appointment for me and my sister’s baptism.
My sister came on the day of baptism from Belgrade because she also was not baptized.
My long friendship with Mr. Zoran Kovacevic is termed as best men relationship.
After the baptism I was able to sleep peacefully and go to a new life.
The Bible makes it clear why it is necessary to baptism.
In conversation with religious leaders Nicodemus, Jesus explained:
„Truly, truly, I say to you unless one is born again, he can not see the kingdom of God.“ (John 3.3)
Nicodemus did not understand the Lord: „How can a man be born when he is old?“
Jesus answered, „Truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God.“ (John 3.5)
„If a man be born of water“ refers to water baptism. „What is born of the Spirit“ means
start a new life, a change of mind and heart. How to enter into the kingdom of God requires a completely new life, not only repaired the old life, it is called a new birth.
